National forest land accounts for nearly two
thirds of all the land in Mountainland. From the High Uintas Wilderness Area
in the east to the high desert "basin and range" landscape of
western Utah, you'll find hundreds of miles of trails and backcountry roads
awaiting your discovery in the three counties of Mountainland: Utah, Wasatch
and Summit.
Headquarters for the Mountain Trails
Foundation, Park City actively promotes biking and is the starting point for
an extraordinary array of valley and mountain rides. When visiting Park City
you can ride nearly 50 miles of lift-serviced trails at Deer Valley Resort,
venue for one of the prestigious NORBA National Championship races and
several local events. When the lift stops running at Deer Valley, explore
the singletrack and silver mines of Daly Canyon before heading down to
Historic Main Street's shops and restaurants.
Over in Utah County, the mountains and
lowlands that surround Utah Lake are truly a cyclist's paradise. From routes
above the valley in the Uinta National Forest to the loop around the Lake
Mountains, there are rides for every level. While in Utah County, be sure
and experience the lift serviced trails at Sundance Resort and higher up the
mountain around impressive Mount Timpanogos.
High above the Heber Valley in Wasatch
County, the trails accessed via Daniels Canyon are especially engaging. A
popular ride traverses Strawberry Ridge to overlooks of Strawberry
Reservoir. The trail features some rough terrain, but the ridge top views
make the effort worthwhile. Wasatch Mountain State Park, located in the
valley, is a 22,000-acre sanctuary near Heber City offering exciting riding
possibilities, including a 30-mile fat tire loop.
